Prevalence of Parkinson’s
It is estimated that about one million Americans are affected by Parkinson’s disease, with approximately 60,000 new cases being diagnosed every year. Men are more likely to be affected than women.
The risk of onset of Parkinson’s disease increases dramatically as a person ages. Parkinson’s disease affects one in every 1,000 of the general population, increasing to one in 100 for those aged over 65.
The first signs of the disease usually manifest between the ages of 50-60, although one in twenty patients with Parkinson’s disease is diagnosed under the age of 40.
